Fortis 10mm
« on: August 21, 2008, 03:12:58 PM »

Does anyone know when the Fortis Pistol will be on the market?  This pistol is a remake of the Bren 10.  I've been told it should be availible in September but that is it. My Dealer can't find any info on it at all. I treid to Google Fortis 10mm with no luck.

I've always wanted a Bren 10 but not for the prices they are asking.

Howdy Mr. Spikey,

Like you I have always wanted one.  Back when I still had my class 01 and 06 AFT licenses, in the late 80s, I was very tempted to get a stainless model listed in Shotgun News.  Problem was the dealer wanted $1500 for it, and it came with ZERO mags.  I finally found one company in VA that was offerings aftermarket Bren Ten mags.  They wanted $175 per mag, and each customer was limited to a max of 3 mags, period.

I simply could not justify that math, even as badly as I wanted one.  I felt they had borrowed a lot from the CZ75 pistol, which I know really like alot.

Recently I saw a youtube video of the folks at the 09 Shot Show.  Then I did some surfing, and found their blog site.  I will post it for you.  The short version is they have no projected availability date, and are not accepting pre-orders.  That said, they hope to have the first 4 versions out by the end of this year, and the cost of the basic model hopefully less than $1000.  They have their own mags and claim to have plenty of them.  Plus they built the pistol so that EAA Witness 10mm mags fit and function perfectly as well in their pistols.  So that is a real plus in my view.

Here is the link for their blog:     http://vltor.wordpress.com/

Here is another article I found on the pistol as well, but it says to follow the progress using the blog/website above.

Also if you do a google search now for Fortis Bren Ten pistol or even Bren Ten pistol, you will find several hits too sir.

I wish us luck.  Since I have gotten rid of both my 10mm pistols, my Colt Delta Elite and my Smith 1006, I would love to be able to get back into the 10mm, and it would be even greater if I could do that with the pistol I wanted all along too.

If this thing actually makes it to dealer shelves it will definitely be a "must have" and will probably sell as fast as they can be produced. I eagerly anticipate the arrival of them at dealer shelves as I always wanted a Bren Ten and still want one today.

Howdy Mr. Norf,

I feel both your pain and anticipation sir  Grin .  I watched a youtube they made at the 2009 Shot Show and read several articles I found on the web.  They kept repeating this was not a marketing effort to see if there was interest.  They were simply going to make these pistols, and intially were going to offer 4 models with various options.  Down the road they did anticipate making a legacy version (true to original BT specs).  The first 4 models they will be releasing, according to what they are saying are based on the Bren Ten but with some subtle improvements to increase reliability, strength, etc.

So they are claiming it is not hype at all, they are in the process of building them now.

But like you sir, I will fully believe it when my buddy Mr. Gary tells me he has one on order for me  Grin Grin Grin

it's ashame the Bren Ten never took off as it was a unique pistol and the barrel bushing IMHO made the pistol. I am not sure what the future of the company would be once these are released but at least they took the initiative to make it use EAA magazines which was one thing that the Bren Ten was plagued with, magazines that were proprietary among other things.

Yes sir.  They noted it will take the EAA Witness mags, and also that they have an abundance of their mags being made for them now.  They stated there would not be a mag issue with these pistols.   Grin
