Rifle identification
« on: April 21, 2010, 05:01:57 AM »

Hi, folks.  I'm gonna be going to an auction this Friday with my dad and Bro-in-law.  Grin They've got a lot of old military rifles up for sale.  I've been able to identify some of the easy ones like Mosin-Nagants, Garands, M-1 carbines, etc., but they have several I can't readily identify from the pics.  I thought you might find it fun to look at 'em and see if there's anything particularly interesting/unusual.  Here's the link:

Please post any interesting identifications!   Smiley

You might like the Maadi Misr if it goes for under $400.  It's a nice AK.

Something similar pictured here....  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauser_C96

I would want to handle it, and do some research, before judging if it is original or not.  Interesting rifle!

Well, according to this site (which I've been to before, but had forgotten about  Roll Eyes), it's a fake (replica).  That changes the value from tens of thousands to hundreds of dollars.  It'll be interesting to look at, at least.   Cool

To any and all - the Mauser carbine was definitely a fake/replica - a nice looking one - that sold for $375 with the case - I will be posting results of the auction later - it made us wish we had lots of money (you will see why when I post the results) which we did not have, but we (three of us went) each bought one gun.

Thanks for the recommendation.  I got it for a $320 bid.  Wink  That meant $370 with buyer's premium and tax.  It was dirty, but cleaned up nicely.  I'm pleased.

Hey, congratulations on the MM!  That's a really well thought of AK47.  Here's a page of Maadi info:  http://www.ak-47.us/Egypt.php

How about some pix and range report, when you have the time?

Thanks, Preacherman.  I actually looked at that site prior to going to the auction.   Cheesy  I figured that since it was made on original Russian machines, it'd be about the best I could get.  I also suppose, based on reading, that it's actually an AKM, rather than an AK47.  I probably won't get a chance to try it out for a while, though.  My time is pretty short this visit.   Sad  I MAY be able to squeeze in one more range visit, but it's doubtful...  Maybe the next time I'm in-country.
