I like the stock and other synthetic furniture, however, I have short arms, and the stock is just a bit too long for me, even fully collapsed. I have the original wood stock, and I may paint it black to match the other furniture, and put it back on.

If you have any experience with an SKS, I am curious how you would compare the two. The WASR sure has a "mean" look.

The SKS is a very fine semi auto rifle, fun to collect. It was made in many Communist countries, as you probably already know. I have owned several. It uses the same cartridge as the AK-47. It is perhaps just a little more accurate than an AK, at 100 yards or further. It was designed to use a 10 round magazine, loaded from the top with stripper clips. It is robust and durable. The most available SKSs in the USA are from Yugoslavia or China. The Yugos have grenade launchers attached at the end of the barrel. Just a few years ago they were in-expensive. Now they sell for $300 and up if in good condition. The SKS is sort of a Commie Garand on a smaller scale. It is not an assault rifle, and not meant to accept high capacity magazines. Some people do this to their SKS, but I would stick with the original 10 round mag for reliability, durability and authenticity. "Don't mess with your SKS" is a good motto. Also, the firing pin channel MUST be kept scrupulously clean, or you may end up with run-away slam fires. There is a spring loaded firing pin you can buy to avoid this possibility.
