Have you made a range trip with the Bulldog yet?  If so, how do you like it?

I did, I went the other day. It was not as bad on recoil as I thought it would be. I had a few FTF's with Remington Ammo. From what I could tell the pistol was making good primer strikes so it may have been the primers. I also may have been short stroking the revolver which would have contributed to light primer strikes because when I went back and re-fired the rounds everything was fine. However, I did have one round that needed several strikes to ignite so that is why I considered the primers. Who knows, everything else was fine with the range session. Once I concentrated I was able to keep everything in a man size target at about 15 yards. 44 special ammo is hard to find in anything other than a 240gr cowboy load, which I think is too much for the bulldog. I am going to pick up some Georgia Arms 44 special at the next show and see what happens then. I may send it back to Charter Arms just to give it a once over as it sat in someones safe for many years unfired before I got it. A few replacement springs would not be such a bad thing. Overall it is definitely a keeper.

Cowboy loads are loaded down compared to conventional ammo.

yep, from what I've seen at the range, Cowboy loads compared to .44 mag are like .410 shotgun loads (or maybe 28 ga.) compared to 12 ga. shotgun in the long gun world

If you can find .44 Russian ammo for cheap -- it will shoot fine through the Bulldog as well.  It simply has a shorter case than the .44 Special.

I'm usually able to find the Blazer 200gr GD HP .44 SPL at Academy Sports (doesn't look like they have stores in VA) for $18 per box.

It's Norty's fault!!

Here's my newly purchased .44 that will hopefully arrive the first of next week.

It will become my new hunting sidearm / woods gun.

fly that is one fine looking sidearm,to me the 44mag is truly a versatile caliber,as you stated 44 Russian .44S&W and 44mag from the same platform,   Doug
